PepsiCo plans to trial production of hundreds of new beverage bottles in 2012. Once it is determined that this technology can be applied to large-scale production, all of their products will be replaced with new packs of this material. According to the British "Daily Mail" reported on March 15, PepsiCo recently introduced the latest weapon of its market competition - pure plant raw material beverage bottles made of grass and bark. PepsiCo said that they will use this low-carbon technology to beat the old rival Coca-Cola.

The new drink bottles used by PepsiCo are made from grass, pine bark, corn husks and other ingredients. This drink bottle looks, feels, and preserves the beverage exactly like the plastic bottle currently in use. They hope to use orange peel, oatmeal, potatoes and other food wastes in the future to make beverage bottles.

PepsiCo's technology may change the industry standard for the plastic packaging industry. Plastics are particularly popular because they are lightweight, have good protection and do not affect the taste of foods. Although plastic cannot biodegrade or act as a fertilizer, it can be completely recycled. The new beverage bottle developed by PepsiCo has all the advantages of a traditional plastic bottle. The raw materials of traditional plastic bottles come from fossil fuels, which have higher costs. The use of plant materials not only reduces costs, but also reduces the impact on the environment.

PepsiCo claims that they are the first company in the world to use pure plant materials to make oxidized biodegradable beverage bottles. While only 30% of Coca-Cola's beverage bottles are derived from plants, it is estimated that they will take several years before they can produce all-plant material beverage bottles.
