The survey found that people who walked or cycled to work scored higher on happiness than those who drove to work. Even if the researchers consider other factors that may affect happiness, such as family income, overall health, and whether there are children, the conclusion is still true.

The study also found that people who turned from driving to walking or cycling tend to feel a rise in happiness. “Avoiding driving may help you feel happy,” the researchers wrote in an article on Preventive Medicine on September 15. These conclusions are consistent with previous studies that exercise can improve mood.
