The vacuum leak detection box for tank bottom welds is specifically designed for conducting vacuum leak tests. This box is constructed from thin sheet metal and forms a rectangular, bottomless structure. The top of the box is securely sealed with a thick glass panel, ensuring a clear view during the inspection process. The bottom edge of the box is wrapped with airtight sponge rubber, allowing it to be firmly attached to the tank's bottom surface. The exterior of the box is coated with reflective white paint, which enhances visibility and reduces glare during testing.
The box is equipped with a short suction pipe and an intake valve, making it easy to connect to a vacuum pump. During the test, soapy water is first applied to the weld area. The vacuum box is then placed over the weld and secured tightly. A vacuum pump is used to create a vacuum inside the box, ideally reaching -70 kPa or higher. While maintaining this vacuum, the inspector carefully observes the area under the box. If any bubbles appear, it indicates a leak, and that section should be marked for further welding or repair. This method ensures accurate and efficient detection of leaks in tank bottom welds, helping maintain the integrity and safety of the structure.
