Seven medium-sized hiking boots - a perfect balance of lightness and solidity

Find a tree stump and sit down and study the shoes on the hiker’s feet. You will immediately notice that they are nothing more than the following types:
1) Heavyweight, durable, high-top boots
2) Low-cut, extremely light, less used leather, often seen as tennis shoes.
3) Between the above two types, neither too heavy nor too light, this type of shoes is the type most frequently worn by hiking enthusiasts during travel. This medium-weight shoe is strong enough to fully protect your crotch; even if your shoes are crushed, its lighter weight can still make you feel less heavy. Therefore, these shoes occupy the largest share of the current sales market for hiking shoes.
Many consumers who plan to buy shoes often find it difficult to understand the many new products that have been introduced. It is very important for us to pick out some excellent ones to introduce to you. Therefore, based on the wishes and evaluation criteria of backpackers, we have singled out shoes that meet the following criteria for evaluation:
* 3 pounds, each shoe weighs 9 ounces of product
* Price within $200
*waterproof
* High or low help
* Recommended for hiking in 25 to 50 pounds, 3 to 7 days of hiking
* Both men and women are eligible to use shoes that meet the above criteria. We finally selected 7 pairs of shoes (including 5 pairs of full leather) for evaluation. During five months of hard work, eight testers wore them from the rocky canyons of South Utah to the mudflats of northern Wisconsin, and also passed through the snow on Mount Rainer in Washington. 2400 miles.
Finding a pair of suitable shoes varies from person to person, and sometimes the person’s feelings about the comfort of the shoes and his evaluation of the shoes can be very different from yours. Therefore, before you decide whether to purchase this shoe, take a look at the data of the tester, find the one closest to your foot, and pay special attention to his evaluation of wearing the following shoes.

Rated hiking shoes

Garmont Bronco Plus

For a very simple reason, this shoe has won the highest evaluation of all volunteers, that is: excellent support ability. Steve said: "If you plan to go hiking in a very steep and steep place, this pair of shoes is the best choice."
Its excellent support comes from coarser and more grained leather than other boots, a durable construction and a hard sole. However, each volunteer is more willing to comment: "Although it gives you the strongest support, it does not protect your feet with shock absorption, but after a tiring walk, you still feel very comfortable feet. It seems that the boots have digested all the discomfort."
Water resistance is another reason for this shoe to score high. This is due to the combination of design, high tongue and hard midsole. Many people have an experience similar to Dan: "Located for more than an hour in the icy, muddy Oregon's Wallows rapids, these shoes not only keep your feet dry, but also feel warm." In the item, Bronco scored the highest score. However, this shoe does not have a waterproof breathable lining similar to Gore-Tex to eliminate moisture in the shoe.
In terms of durability, Bronco also scored high points. After a few days of trekking in the Grand Canyon, Annette concluded: "There are not many places on the planet that destroy shoes like the Grand Canyon, but Bronco only left a trace of wear."
Conclusion: Paul sums it up best: “Made for you.” If you want a pair of light-weight boots that are hard and rough on foot, then choosing Garmont Bronco will not disappoint you. ”

Asolo Quartz

The final result of this shoe test is close to the highest score, as Liz and Kat said: "Such as comfortable as rubber-soled sports shoes." This is the only shoe that makes 8 testers satisfied.
This shoe is not a tandem design, the use of Cordura contact surface, in addition to David, everyone did not feel foot pain after wearing. He said: "There are some pains in the cheekbones of both feet." (But after a while, David became a hardcore advocate for Asolo.)
The Gore-Tex lining effectively prevented flooding, and even when Steve was on foot in the “narrow valleys of Utah, he often came in and out of the water,” no water entered the shoes. Dan also, when he entered Idaho's Sawtooths, forgot to bring boots for fishing, but Asolo's Gore-Tex lining kept the shoes dry.
Although it is not as strong as Garmonts, most of the testers believe that Asolo can provide enough support for 3 to 7 days of hiking. "It's quite comfortable and the cushion feels very good," Steve said. Kat also agreed: "When I feel very tired and my steps are no longer stable, my feet and ankles are still well protected."
Eric walks along Wisconsin's Lagoo Creek, the road is muddy; Liz has a few miles of rough hiking on the Greek hiking trail; Dan “had snow all the way, slipped badly” when Mt. Rainer went down, and the Vibram soles showed excellent performance. Non-slip force.
Conclusion: The comfortable Asolo Quarts is a versatile boot that can handle all weather conditions and perform well in North America under a variety of conditions.

Salomon X-Adventure 8

The reviewers generally rated Salomon X-Adventure 8 as highly rated. It is a tandem design -------- plastic inserts with unique technology on the upper. This design is as described by Kat. Your feet are wrapped tightly enough to prevent the foot from sliding in the shoe."
Six of the six critics were all admiring the thoughtful design of the boots on Rocker (the length of the shoe on the soles of the shoe), David said: "It makes every step more comfortable" but Paul said: "rocker hindered me to walk wide."
Salomon's Contagrip soles provide excellent anti-slip performance thanks to the dense rubber and deep shading of the sole. This allowed Eric to "rest assured that every step he took on the muddy, wet road on the Rainbow Lake in Wesconn."
Although the appraisers appreciate the simple shoelace design of the shoes, there are also three of them who raise objections and say that when they bend over and put the shoelaces on the hooks, they almost fall. Some problems with this design and outsole compromise the durability of the boot.
There are also a few complaints: The plastic panel on the shoelace “buzzes every step” (Liz), “The soles are wide, making them more suitable for hiking rather than living in the wild for a long time.” (Steve)
Conclusion: The cushions work well and are comfortable to wear and are suitable for travel when the road conditions are not good. Especially suitable for travelers who need extra protection for their ankles.

Raochle Mountain Legend GTX

Because each scorer gives a large difference in the score, this shoe is ranked in the middle level, but it still shows a strong and durable features. There is a feature that all testers greatly appreciate, that is, its "best use"
The structural design. Each part of the shoe does not have any decoration that is not related to actual function. This shoe is the lightest of the 7 models. "If I have some danger on foot and I need a pair of boots that are both flexible and flexible, I will pick this one," David wrote.
The soft Nubuk leather fabric makes this pair of shoes easy to apply. “Before the one-week trip to Wind Valley and the Patterson National Park in South Dakota, the only thing that was felt was that it was as comfortable as walking in the air.” Annette admits: “And there was no blistering” . But some commentators have a few words on the support structure of the shoes. Steve said: “I bet that backpacking in hard-to-go country backpacks is not a problem at all.” And Eric felt that it lacked support for the ankles and the soles were too hard. : "For good road conditions and relaxing trips."
The testers liked the shoelace hook design in the center of the tongue, which could "prevent the tongue from moving" (Dan said). The use of Lengend's Gore-Tex fabrics and high jaws give it unmatched waterproof performance in several shoes. But Liz said: "When crossing the rapids, there is a small crack in the tongue." Dan explained that it was the result of snow soaking after Cascade had been walking all day.
Another point worth paying attention to is: Vibram soles allow each examiner to maintain his body balance on muddy roads, snow, clay fields, and hard rock conditions. But Steve said: “It's like skiing when you walk on the boulders that cover seaweed on the coast of British Columbia.” Testers generally believe that the shoe is well-crafted and durable.
Conclusion: Mountain Lengend is best for 3 to 4 days of hiking. If you need a better support design to cope with long travel, choose another pair.

Tecnica Finder

The first thing that caught your attention was the appearance of this shoe, which broke through the traditional leather and Cordura materials. The Tecnica Finder uses edge-cutting fabrics-Keprotec, a tough synthetic leather and Crosta leather. This leather is added. The rubber component gives the shoe maximum air permeability and durability under light weight.
Annette appreciates the robustness of Crosta leather, which is well protected when Annette's toes walk on rocky roads in Canyonland National Park. "I still like Tecnica's crotch pad," she said. "After the tie is fastened, the pad wraps around my 'skinny' calf and feels comfortable." Other testers also unanimously affirmed the toe protection of the shoe and The ankle protection function, but due to the softness of the ankle pad, almost every appraiser thinks that in this series of shoes, this is a less durable one, as Eric said, suitable for "small capacity, good road conditions travel."
In fact, the waterproof performance affected the score of this shoe. "The biggest problem is that the upper gusset is no more than about 2 inches from the top of the shoe," said Dan. “Even as we pass through a very shallow creek in the Grinnette Peak in Washington, the water seeps into the laces,” Kat said. But one thing is that the shoes are doing very quickly.
The last point worth noting is its unique lace design. "Awesome," "Effortless," and "Incomparable" are testers' evaluations of small devices that help fasten shoelaces faster.
Conclusion: It is a pair of comfortable, lightweight and easy-to-shoe shoes. It is best suited for wearing in dry rivers with less than 40 pounds.

Merrell Grand Traverse GTX

Although the Merrell Grand Traverse GTX has a strong competiveness in several models, its quirky form has made the testers (Kat, Annette and Paul) blistering and faltering. Almost every evaluator complained about the lack of space in the shoe, the width of the front of the shoe, and the "heavy edge" of the heel.
Thanks to the use of Gore-Tex fabrics and sufficient tongue and gussets, the waterproof performance of the shoes is indeed excellent. After crossing the numerous rivers in northwest Oregon, Liz trekked up and down the melting snow on Mount St. Helens. He said: “Shoes are almost as waterproof as submarines.”
The cushions are high and the workmanship is good. The leather of the linked design provides a full range of protection. Dan said: "The best support, moderate hardness of the soles and strong uppers, Merrells provide my feet with the most stable space."
However, the examiner also noticed a few details. First of all, "The tongue is heavy and heavy," Kat said. Eric added: "It's very uneven and squeezes my feet. I need to adjust my shoelaces often." Second, the round laces are easy to release. "They are simply exercising my bow power," Paul said. The other two critics complained about using pliers to repair the hooks above the laces. The trouble was small. They worried that the hooks would break.
Conclusion: If it suits your feet, the Merrell Grand Traverse GTX will be a pair of strong boots that will perform well on rough, rough days. The boots show their advantages in wet road conditions. Suitable for travelers with narrow feet and scorpions on their heels.

Danner St.Henlen

It would be easy to want Danner to get to his feet quickly because, as Eric said, "The shoes are soft and creamy."
The Vibram soles have good friction. “Whether wet rock, mud or sand cannot match this kind of sole,” Dan said after a week-long Washington’s Olympic Peninduda long hike.
But discomfort then comes, due to the excessive support design of the shoes. Eric said: "It is too stretchy." Steve pointed out: "The midsole is too flexible." After walking long distances, everyone felt that the soft leather could not be eliminated. "After two weeks, these boots are like a group of veterans," Liz said.
As for waterproof performance, St.Henlen's long tongue assures sufficient waterproof performance. Soft leather absorbs water faster than other boots.
Conclusion: Danner St.Henlen is suitable for day hikers, those with strong ankles or those who like soft leather shoes. If you are keen on taking rough roads, consider Danner's heavy boots.
