Plastic tracks, also known as all-weather track and field surfaces, are made from a combination of polyether, recycled tire rubber, EPDM rubber granules, PU particles, pigments, additives, and fillers. These tracks offer excellent flatness, high compressive strength, proper hardness, and elasticity, making them ideal for athletes to improve their speed and technique. The stable physical properties of plastic tracks help reduce injuries and enhance overall athletic performance. Made primarily from polyurethane rubber and other materials, they provide good elasticity, color retention, resistance to weathering, and aging. As a result, they are widely recognized as the best all-weather outdoor flooring solution globally.

There are several types of plastic track materials available:
(a) Breathable plastic tracks are a two-layer system. The base layer consists of urethane-resin-bonded black environmental rubber particles, while the surface layer is made of colored EPDM rubber particles mixed with polyurethane and sprayed directly onto the surface using an SMG machine. This type meets GB/14833-93 standards, offers good permeability, and is quick to install. It's cost-effective and commonly chosen by primary schools due to its ease of maintenance.
(b) Prefabricated plastic tracks are pre-made coils produced in factories using natural and synthetic rubber, mineral fillers, stabilizers, and colorants. They are formed through high-temperature vulcanization (280–300°C), mechanical embossing, and double-layer printing. These are popular in professional stadiums but are too expensive for most schools.
(c) Compound plastic tracks have a base layer of black environmentally friendly rubber particles bonded with polyurethane resin, and a surface layer of colored EPDM rubber particles cast into polyurethane resin.
(d) Hybrid plastic tracks combine PU and black rubber particles in specific proportions. The materials are transported to the site, mixed, and vulcanized at room temperature. This type has national standards and is mainly used for competitive venues. Both compound and hybrid tracks fall between breathable and full plastic systems, offering better quality but at a higher cost.

Foundation requirements for plastic tracks vary depending on the type:
(a) Breathable, compound, and hybrid tracks do not require highly rigid foundations because of their good breathability and water resistance. A cement foundation is usually sufficient.
(b) Prefabricated tracks only need special adhesives and can be laid on a compact base with minimal labor and machinery. After 24 hours, they can be used normally.
Regarding pricing, the cost of mixed plastic tracks is typically around $210 per square meter. The base layer, whether cement or asphalt, costs approximately ¥180–190 per square meter, with a thickness of about 15 cm. These factors influence the overall project budget significantly.
