Only four months after the commencement of the Valmet four coater coater in Finland, the coater speed has reached a world record of 1,750 meters per minute (5742 feet per minute). The Metsa-Serla coater has a web width of 8440 mm (332 inches). The coater is equipped with two ValmetSymcoat coating heads for the primer coating and two Opticoatjet coating heads for the final top coat.

In the production process, the speed and quality potential of the product were tested at 1750 m/min. The coating operation was free from any obstacles. At the same time, the product quality was excellent. The product was a Galerie quality paper with a double-sided coated basis weight of 90 g/m 2. The Symcoat coating head gives a uniform primer quality prior to topcoat application. When Opticoatjet is topcoated, the cloth coating is absolutely free of blanks and smears. This ensures that the paper surface is uniformly free of wire drawing.

According to Valmet's Metsa-Serla coating machine experts, if not limited, the production speed of the coater can rise to 1,800 meters/minute (5,900 feet/minute) or even exceed this limit. This world record seems to be a milestone in the history of paper coating.
